This was our second hotel in the three city "Taste of Italy". The location as mentioned by others is extraordinary. The Grand Hotel is literally a block from the train station and we walked to and from saving on a cab ride. The hotel is very old world with furnishings that bespeak the grand heritage of this site. We had advised the hotel that we were celebrating our wedding anniversary and a bottle of fine champagne 'on the house' was waiting for us in our room. The room did not have a view, but was to the back of the hotel and quiet. It was large by European standards with two brand new flat screen televisions in the anteroom and the main bedroom. The room had beautiful wood beams and framing around the doors and a deep walk in closet with a seating chest also of wood. Just lovely. The staff was very, very helpful confirming our tour reservations and providing directions for the sites. We took the initiative to purchase from the front desk the "Hop On Hop Off" bus tickets. This double decker bus service which can be found in most well traveled tourist towns provides a circle tour of the city with drop off and reenter privileges for 20E per person. It's a great way to get an overview of an entire city. We recommend that you ride the entire loop taking photos and videos from the top of the bus while listening to the taped presentation. This tour takes about an hour. We were able to see many sights in Florence that we would not have seen without this bus. Then we started a repeat of the tour and we were able to hop off on those locations that we felt were places we wanted to explore. The hop privileges are good for 24 hours so you can acclimate the first day and then indepth explore the second. By the way, the drop off point in Florence is right in front of the train station, again one block from this hotel. Each evening we walked throughout the city from our hotel and didn't take one cab ride, great location. Finally the breakfast was amazing especially in the roof top restaurant overlooking the Duomo. China, fine silver ware, and crisp linens combined with hard boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, breakfast meats, Italian hams and salami and cheese with unique breads and all the juice and fruit you can eat was a wonderful surprise. We will definitely stay at this hotel again!

Excellent hotel with large single and double rooms. Very centrally located and helpful, friendly staff. Hotel and old world charm with recently renovated bathrooms and very comfortable beds. The breakfasts offer a good variety in addition to a spectacular view of the city.
There was renovation to the outside of the hotel in progress which means that during the week construction noise begins at 8:00 am and continues until about 5:00 pm.

This was our favorite hotel we saw while in Florence. We absolutely loved it! The most attractive feature we thought is the 360-degree rooftop restaurant and lounge areas. This was a unique setting and very romantic. Florence is best viewed above with all of its red-tile rooftops and you can actually sightsee from the comfort of your own hotel! We felt as though we had stepped back in time. It sits right on the Santa Maria Novella Piazza. Perfect location!

My mother and I have already traveled with Go-Today.com (London) and were elated to be able to stay in 4 and 5 star hotels while traveling Europe. This particular hotel was right across from the train station, and a short walk to the Duomo and any other sites you might wish to check out. We had a great time here, the breakfast was great and even though we broke our safe two nice men from the hotel fixed it immediately with smiles on their faces. Thanks!
