Description Our first stop is Windsor, where we visit the Royal Castle, the weekend residence of the Queen. Entrance is included and you will have plenty of time to explore the magnificent state apartments, St. George's Chapel, and Queen Mary's dolls house. Then we head to Stonehenge, the most popular prehistoric monument in the world, with its origins dating back nearly 5,000 years. Entrance is also included and we'll have plenty of time to marvel at this ancient feat of engineering and design.
Lunch is taken in the Salisbury plains in a delightful Inn with a thatched roof that offers a range of traditional English food and ales. then we journey through the very heart of the plains, passing Silbury Hill, the largest man-made earthen mound in Europe, constructed using primitive spades around 2600 BC. We go on to stop for photos at Avebury, the largest of the region's stone circles (dating from a similar time period to Stonehenge and noticeably larger.)
The final part of the day is spent exploring Oxford, revered as one of the world's greatest academic institutions, with charming honey-colored stone buildings set around ivy-clad quadrangles. Our guide will take you on a small walking tour, telling you about the traditions of college life, before we enjoy afternoon tea in one of Oxford's most famous and beautiful landmarks, the Ashmolean, the oldest museum in Britain. What a day!
