This is the perfect package for travelers who would like to take their time to discover the beauty of Costa Rica. You custom-design your own itinerary and we provide the car, list of hotels, road maps and service. You start off your first night stay in San Jose which is confirmed before you arrive in Costa Rica. The next morning a Daihatsu Terios 4x4 is delivered to your hotel by the rental company. You will have a briefing at your hotel with an experienced English-speaking guide who will provide your accommodation vouchers, answer any questions you have about driving in Costa Rica, discuss your travel plans, etc. Then you are off to explore on your own! You go as you please, choosing hotels or lodges from the category you selected. You can stay as many nights as you like in each hotel. The only condition is that you book as you go, no sooner than the morning of the day before. The Flexi-Drive Package was designed to fit all budgets as hotels and car rental rates are lower than the rack or walk-in rates.

Vacation Package Itinerary:

Costa Rica Coast Explore Flexi Drive. On your arrival day a representative from Costa Rican Trails will meet you at the airport and provide transfer to the hotel in San Jose which is already prebooked. The next morning a Daihatsu Terios 4x4 is delivered to your hotel by the rental company. You will also have a briefing at your hotel with an experienced English-speaking guide who will provide your accommodation vouchers, answer any questions you have about driving in Costa Rica, discuss your travel plans, etc. Then you are off to explore on your own! You go as you please, choosing hotels and lodges from the category you selected. There are over 131 hotels in the three categories covering almost the whole country. You can stay as many nights as you like in each hotel. The only condition is that you book as you go, no sooner than the morning of the day before. When calling or checking in, you must identify yourself as a Costa Rican Trails client. In each of the main areas there is a choice of hotels and lodges, so if one hotel is full there is a good chance that another will have space. If within the main area where you want to stay no hotels in your category have space just call Costa Rican Trails who will assist you in finding you an alternative in that same area or near that area. At the end of your trip, simply drop the car at the rental company's office at the airport. Under the category of Economy you will have a choice of forty-one hotels. Under the category of Favorites you will have a choice of 106 hotels. Under the category of Superior you will have a choice of 131 hotels.

Deposit: major credit card required; debit cards not accepted. Valid, original driver license and passport required; copies not accepted. Rental period is based on 24-hour day from time of pickup; vehicle must be returned by the designated drop-off date and time to avoid additional rental charges. The LDW Insurance is included however it has a deductible of $750 to $1500. You can purchase SDW or full coverage at an additional $17.00 daily (paid locally). The $750 to $1500 deposit is still required but will be refunded at time of return of vehicle. You may also purchase PAI (Personal Accident Insurance) for USD 3.00 daily (paid locally).
The vehicles shown are examples. Specific models within a car class may vary in availability and features, such as passenger seating, luggage capacity, and mileage.

PLEASE NOTE:

The vehicle used for this package can hold up to 3 passengers and their luggage comfortably, for 4 passengers traveling together and in the same vehicle the price of the package remains the same however the vehicle is automatically upgraded to a larger size to accommodate all 4 passengers comfortably.

Some departures and some gates of origin may involve overnight flights into San Jose Costa Rica. In these cases, your itinerary will be adjusted accordingly.

Space is limited and your desired travel dates may not be available if you wait, so book early to avoid disappointment. We highly recommend 2nd and 3rd choices for travel dates and/or accommodations.

Central America Departure Tax:
Upon departure in local currency or USD (cash only) the amount of $20 - 45 in some countries is required (amounts may vary daily based on currency fluctuations). Aircraft boarding will be denied to any passenger who fails to pay this tax which is collected after check-in and prior to boarding by Federal Airport staff.

Passport Requirements:
It is the sole responsibility of each passenger to obtain the necessary documents for travel, not excluding passports and visas. A valid passport is normally the only requirement for U.S. citizens. Visa requirements do change without notice and vary by nationality. Please check with the consulate office of the destination country as to visa requirements.

Full payment due within 1 day of booking by 2pm.

Costa Rica Rental Car Notes:
CDW-Insurance Deductible - $750 USD for accidents; may be waived for an additional charge of $17 USD daily (paid locally). Additional driver - $5 USD daily. Required documents - valid driver license, passport and major credit card as guarantee to cover deductible (VISA, Master Card, American Express, Diner’s Club).

Restrictions:

This package is not available during the months of January and February or Christmas, New Year and Easter weeks.

Prices are per person based on double occupancy and a 21-day advance purchase. Purchases within 21 days will incur additional fees. Air carrier used in the package is based on gateway and availability at time of booking and multiple flights connections may be necessary. Flight departure times may be at any time on your requested departure day. Surcharges up to $50 per person each way may apply for travel Thursday through Monday depending on travel dates. Air taxes/Government-imposed fees/surcharges are excluded. These fees are in addition to the package prices and will be added to invoice. Travel is valid for these dates only. Certain other restrictions may apply, and offer is subject to change without notice. No request will be processed until full payment is received. Once submitted your request can take at least 24 hours to confirm. 2nd and 3rd choices for travel dates are highly recommended.

	Great trip!!! Beautiful country. Green, green, green. Any time you get a chance, do the white water rafting - amazingly fun. The people are some of the happiest I have ever met. Everyone is smiling. A hint though, if you are doing the flexi-drive, pick a max of three locations. It takes a while to get there. We spent too much time driving. Also, TAKE out the tire insurance on the rental - you will probably need it - we did.
